University of Wisconsin Chemistry Building

Madison, WI

The Situation:

The Chemistry Building at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seven stories with a fairly small footprint. It’s located right in the heart of a bustling campus, and KMI was hired as part of an extensive renovation.

The Solution:

KMI installed a terracotta rain screen wall system, which is considered a higher-end finish on a building. Terracotta has been around for thousands of years, but this is truly a modern wall system with dimensional panels and an open joint system. The terracotta panels protect the structural wall from the elements while the open joint system ensures proper ventilation. Should any moisture get in, the open joints allow it to drain back out.

Materials and methods change with time and taste, but with decades of experience and expertise, KMI has seen and installed it all.
