Komatsu Mining Corp Corporate Headquarters

Milwaukee, WI

The Situation:

In the late 1800s, Alonzo Pawling and Henry Harnischfeger opened a machine shop in the Walker’s Point neighborhood of Milwaukee. They began making overhead cranes and, eventually, large mining equipment. Together they built one of the most iconic manufacturing companies in the world.

Over a century later, Komatsu, Ltd. purchased P&H. Rather than leave Milwaukee, Komatsu decided to build a new 170,000 ft2 headquarters on the lakefront. KMI was tasked with installing the concrete block.

The Solution:

This scale alone made this a challenging project with multiple crews working in multiple areas at the same time. There were also a number of structural elements that crews needed to workaround. As always, coordination and planning were critical.

What made this project truly rewarding was Komatsu’s decision to invest in Milwaukee and keep large-scale manufacturing here in the city. KMI is proud to be a small part of Milwaukee’s manufacturing legacy while helping to build its future.
