Evans Scholars Scholarship House

Madison, WI

The Situation:

The Evans Scholars Scholarship House is a dormitory on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison for Evans Scholars for young golf caddies who have demonstrated an excellent high school academic record and significant financial need. Evans Scholars live in the house for their entire undergraduate career, so it must be a comfortable space where students can live, study and succeed.

Built in 1965, the original three-story building on Langdon St. was outdated, so the decision was made to tear it down and replace it with a four-story building on the same footprint. Working in a dense, urban area like Madison can be challenging. Buildings are so close together there is often not enough space to store all the materials and people needed for the entire job.

The Solution:

KMI installed the brick details and the stone veneer, as well as large precast elements, including the intricate, decorative window surrounds. We also installed concrete block and built the elevator shaft.

Planning and logistics were key to the success of this project. The KMI team ensured that crews had the equipment and materials they needed exactly when they needed them. Developing a detailed strategy and schedules on the front end allowed KMI to stay on time and on budget.
