After being named the “Green Business of the Year,” Johnson Controls took initiative in overhauling their headquarters to comply with LEED Platinum certification. In this project we were responsible for the rainscreen cladding construction, a unique design featuring custom anchoring, an innovative insulation system and a durable water/vapor/air barrier. KMI’s strive for perfection is clearly seen when we suggested a flexible and durable channel-anchored system, with each limestone panel supported individually in replace of all open joints. Another concern for our masons was lining up the joints perfectly, since the plans from the limestone supplier and designers were drawn separately. A huge factor to this project’s success was KMI’s ability to be the sole source of responsibility by ensuring proper fit and avoiding passing the buck. “It takes a sophisticated mason contractor these days,” Dan Davies, Project Manager.
